What is Average Booking Lead Time?

In Projsite, Average Booking Lead Time is a lead-time measure. It describes the time between a delivery being booked in the delivery plan and the delivery taking place.

    What it measures

The metric measures the planning horizon, not whether the delivery went well. It says how much time the logistics manager had to work with before the transport arrived.

    Why it matters

Lead time is what makes coordination possible. With a few days’ notice, deliveries can be moved, lifts booked and crews prepared. Bookings made the same day can only be received, not planned. Short lead time is therefore often the real cause behind queues and waiting that would otherwise be explained as “high load”.

    How to read the result

Read the average together with the spread. A reasonable average can still contain a large group of bookings made at very short notice, and it is that group which creates problems in production. Compare per party as well: lead time usually differs more between contractors than between weeks.

    Practical example

A site has recurring queues in the mornings. Lead time shows that a large share of bookings are made the evening before. Because the deliveries only become known then, they cannot be spread across the day, and congestion appears every morning regardless of the plan.

    What affects the metric

    • How far in advance work preparations and material needs are settled.
    • The supplier’s own lead times and delivery confirmations.
    • Whether booking is done by whoever orders the material, or by someone else.
    • Replanning in production that moves the need.

    Follow-up in Projsite

In Projsite Intelligence, the metric is followed over time alongside the project’s other logistics data.
