    What is Resource Time Utilization?

In Projsite, Resource Time Utilization is a utilisation measure for shared resources such as hoists, cranes and loading zones. It describes how much of the time the resource is taken up.

    What it measures

The metric measures occupancy, not value. A hoist can be fully booked and still used inefficiently, and a loading zone can be lightly booked yet essential when it is needed.

    Why it matters

Shared resources are often a project’s real bottleneck. Without a view of occupancy, discussions about capacity become a question of who speaks loudest. With that view, you can see whether the problem is too little capacity or uneven distribution across the day.

    How to read the result

High utilisation is not the goal. A resource close to full occupancy has no margin: one late delivery pushes the next booking aside and the delay spreads. Very low utilisation may instead mean the resource is not needed to that extent, or that the parties solve the need outside the booking system.

    Practical example

A site discusses hiring a second construction hoist. Occupancy shows the hoist is heavily loaded between seven and nine, but free for much of the afternoon. The first step is to move bookings, not to add capacity.

    What affects the metric

    • How bookings are distributed across the day and the week.
    • How long bookings are made for, compared with actual time used.
    • The number of parties sharing the resource.
    • Cancellations that are not registered and therefore block time.

    Follow-up in Projsite

In Projsite Intelligence, the metric is followed over time alongside the project’s other logistics data.
